First time I visited your blog. Looks like you're a techno computer nerd. Being the village idiot on this stuff, I don't understand half of what you talk about.

But you like hamburgers and chili, and that makes you a man after my own heart. We'll have to wage chili wars. And I have strong opinions on gumbo, too.

I ate a lot of C-Rations in the Army years ago. I actually liked some of that stuff. (Don't tell anybody). These gun nut sites, like the one you mentioned, get under my skin, however. Civilian wannabes.

Anyway, if you're interested in emergency rations, you might google "mayday bars." It's lifeboat food developed by the Coast Guard. Pretty handy.

I created a test account, also a subscriber. It does offer the dashboard which is similar to what an admin gets, but not all the features are available.

I like this alternate reality Star Trek. it's good. I want to see what the klingons are going to look like. Are they going to go back to the old style or the next generation look.

As this blog isn't on the wordpress.com servers, your settings don't carry over here. The icon must be a feature of that theme I tried. Some feature were broken so I changed the theme again.

You may register here. You'd be the first.

Many of the key conflicts resolved over the course of Star Trek eliminating defining struggles. Data's quest to be a real boy was practically complete. He:

had an emotion installed

deeply integrated into human society

gave his life so others may live

Look-a-like B-4 replaced Data and that struggle to develop can be explored again.

Now I understand why there's that strange icon by my name; somehow I got signed out of WordPress, and apparently I am a "guest". OK, there's an excuse for an addition while signed in.

I was grateful too that the tip of that drill missed the Golden Gate Bridge! I'm just surprised that the drill didn't trigger the San Andreas Fault, because that's just about where it started drilling (in the underwater section).

Here's what I put on Facebook last night after I got home:

JOHN WHEELER just got back from watching STAR TREK. He has seen the future and it is LOUD, COMPLICATED and VIOLENT. The popular Western music on Earth is as BAD as ever, and the Human species is as SELF-RIGHTEOUS as ever. (ST certainly matches the CGI and other FX in TERMINATOR SALVATION and TRANSFORMERS, pending.) That said...what a superb piece of filmmaking overall. If that doesn't reboot the franchise, nothing will. [And I had to watch the film to the end of the credits to learn that Majel Roddenberry is deceased. :( ]

I suspect that the way the timeline is handled in this film will allow Paramount to remake the history of STAR TREK from scratch in as many films as they think audiences will pay to see.

Apparently because the needlessly complicated Romulan ship and its nasty inhabitants were destroyed in the young Kirk's present, and no one then went "back to the future" to prevent the critical actions and knit together the timeline. Before, the heros always traveled backwards in time to fix the timeline (at least in TOS and the original movies); no one does this here...

Ow! As Capt. Janeway put it, time paradoxes give me a headache.

The Empire invaded San Francisco and the City survived? :)

The U.S.S. Enterprise blew up and didn't take out half the San Francisco Bay Area with it? :))

Was it really necessary to provoke my sense of nostalgia for "Baghdad by the Bay", in or near which I lived for 14 years? :(
